MTN Bushfire Festival
4/28/2026
The End Malaria Fund (EMF), in collaboration with the National Malaria Programme (NMP) and the Eswatini Malaria Youth Army, participated in the annual MTN Bushfire Festival from Friday, 30 May to Sunday, 1 June 2025.
This strategic presence aimed to raise public awareness about malaria, mobilize resources for elimination efforts, and inspire youth to join the national malaria advocacy movement.
Through the African Leaders Malaria Alliance, EMF secured a stall in the United Nations Bring Your Fire Zone. MTN Bushfire supported the initiative by discounting the stall fee to E20,000 (from the proposed E60,000). Positioned in a high‑traffic area, the stall attracted significant engagement across the three‑day event.
Objectives
End Malaria Fund: Solicit donations to support malaria elimination initiatives in Eswatini.
National Malaria Programme: Provide public education on malaria prevention, diagnosis, and treatment.
Eswatini Malaria Youth Army: Recruit and mobilize young people to champion malaria awareness and advocacy.
Outcomes
Increased public engagement and awareness on malaria, particularly among youth and urban festivalgoers.
Direct community involvement through fundraising and recruitment activities.
Enhanced visibility of national malaria efforts via a shared platform.
Strengthened collaboration between EMF, NMP, and the Youth Army through successful joint participation.
This participation demonstrated the power of partnerships in advancing Eswatini’s malaria elimination agenda, while also embedding the cause within a vibrant cultural event that resonates strongly with young audiences.
